There are times when we consume certain food which is perceived to be healthy due to what we've heard or it's appearance. Some of this food actually causes weight gain and you wonder why you're struggling to lose weight or your weight loss is slower than you expected. Here are some of my discoveries...
Salad dressing_ The dressing offered in restaurants and sold in supermarkets is usually not the best thing to add to your salad. It just ruins the whole 'health' aspect of your salad. Most salad dressings contain a lot of sugar and fat. 10 of the worst dressings are : Ranch, Thousand Island, Blue Cheese, House Italian, Creamy Italian, Creamy Caesar, House Russian, French, Honey Mustard, Balsamic Vinaigrette. The best option is to make your own salad dressing using lemon zest, olive oil,
and vinegar. For more information on this, visit concordweightloss.com.
Energy drinks and energy bars_ These contain too much sugar, as well as caffeine. You may as well be drinking a can of coke (which you should not even touch at all). Rather drink water or green tea. A banana is also a great energy booster.
'Lite' or 'Fat free'_ 'Lite' versions of most products are usually a bad idea because they usually substitute whatever they have removed (be it fat or sugar) with something equally or even more unhealthy such as extra chemicals, sugar, additives, or sodium. Rather eat the regular version in moderation. This is recommended by many health magazines. 'Fat free' foods still also have calories. So don't be fooled.
Muffins_ Yes, even bran muffins. They contain a lot of sugar and should be eaten in moderation. One muffin should be enough for the day. Avoid adding butter, jam or cheese. That's just adding unnecessary calories.
Mayonnaise_ Mayo is made of more than 50% fat! The day I read that on the package, I never ate mayonnaise again. I was basically eating fat. Scary.
Cheese_ It does contain protein and calcium. However, cheese also contains a lot of fat and salt and one should be picky with the kind of cheese they consume. It also should be consumed in moderation. The healthier cheeses are parmesan, feta, cottage cheese, Swiss and string cheese.
