It is better to maintain than to gain

As part of the #shortsindecember movement, I guess it only makes sense to state the basics. The basics are the main things you should always do to maintain a healthy lifestyle and most importantly, your weight! I believe it is better to maintain than to gain! I know what this feels like, as my weight has fluctuated a couple of times over the past few years and it was horrible! Getting back into shape and losing weight that you've lost before is extremely frustrating. Now we all want to avoid this, especially since 'weight-gain season' is upon us WINTER.

So here are some of the basic tips that work for me:

Water!_ I used think this was some sort of myth, but yes guys water is the best thing to drink, ever. It is also (almost) free, you know. If it's 'too cold' to drink in Winter, than you had better warm that ish up! You cannot go without water and expect to lose weight. At least 2 litres a day.

  • Green tea_ I know it doesn't taste like chocolate, but BeyoncĂ©'s body doesn't look like chocolate either, okay... (lame comparison, I know). It's time to wear big girl panties and drink up. It speeds up your metabolism and gives energy so it's good to drink it in the morning, before a workout, or after a meal. A cup a day will do. Don't drink it at night (rather drink rooibos), or you won't sleep. It also does a lot of other good things for your body, which you can perhaps Google (we are only concerned with weight-loss here).

  • Get Active_ Yes, I know they say weight-loss requires 80% nutrition 20% exercise. This is true, but you need exercise to actually get into SHAPE. You cant be wobbling around with your size 28 thighs, you get me? It gets tougher in Winter, so I would recommend some indoor aerobics and weight-lifting at LEAST 5 times a week (this is not a joke, we want results). If you can't afford the gym, grab a hoodie and hit the road. Run. It's great for your legs too. A weight-lifting and running combo will always give great results.

  • Sleep_ No you will not 'sleep when you're dead', you'll just die because you're not getting enough sleep. Sleeping is not only fantastic for your skin, it helps your body not crave the bad stuff (junk food). The average adult should get a 7-8 hours of sleep at night.

  • Avoid cheat days_ I think 'Cheat days' are a horrible concept if you want to make health a lifestyle. Just don't. Who are you cheating exactly? Yes. Yourself. The healthier you are, the less junk food you will crave. Rather eat one thing that is not the healthiest you could eat, once in a while. I sometimes eat a Jungle Bar (not the worst food ever) once every 2 weeks or so. A whole cheat day full of bad food will just set you back, after a week of hard work. Oh no.

There's just so much to share, and I will continue with the basics for the next few days. Let me know what you think. Maybe some of this stuff has worked for you as well (or not). You can also let me
know if there's anything that you would like me to cover. Stay Positive.

  1. Hey,
Ok. Firstly, I LOVE this blog. YAY. I agree with majority of the stuff you've mentioned. Gym or any form of exercise is vital. It shouldn't be an option. And trust me, i know how sucky it is in the beginning. Everybody at the gym knows each other and what to do and you're the fatty at the back who's bumping into everybody and missing ALL the steps. I know. Been there. Many times. But its all about perserverence guys, you NEED to keep pushing, have that beach body in your mind and keep pushing. You will get used to it and you will love it. Even if its not gym per say, just get physical (sex doesn't count as a gym session, tried it, doesn't work). Also with water, not my favourite thing, so i splash a little lemon juice in it for the pain. You need that H2O, yo! You didn't mention fruits and veggies. Cut out ALL white carbs (and some brown ones too) and stay close to your veggies (Potatoes are the devil. Dont. Just Dont.).
Umm.... cheat days, i dont know. sometimes i will have something that isnt healthy but i dont punish myself. If i eat something I wasnt suppose to, i just add another 30 minutes at gym. that way the temptation stays at bay.
Lets get skinny, but mostly lets get healthy! #ShortsInDecember #ItsGoingDown
    Peace

  2. Thank you so much Cama for your input. Not to worry, I'm not yet done with the list of the basics. I will definitely mention fruit and veggies. Well done for making it this far. Set more goals. Make more changes. Keep it up!
