Kimono

I've been known to dress like a 'mom' by my friends. From parkas, leggings, cardigans, shirt dresses
and now kimonos, some of my friends have mentioned (here and there) how their moms would totally rock some of my outfits. I had issues with this statement at first (I mean, who would want to dress like a 50-something year old?), but I grew to be okay with it because, you know what? Mom clothes are comfortable. And some moms have extremely good taste in clothes. So I've decided to dress like a stylish mom. There.

My new favourite, well maybe not so new since it's originally a Japanese traditional garment, is the kimono. I bought my first one about two months ago when I walked into a store and fell in love! And it was on sale, since nobody really cares about it right now. But I'm telling you now, they will soon. I'm planning to buy another one as soon as I find a perfect design.

Why Squat???

Too lazy to squat? Don't care for a perky bum? Here are more reasons why you won't regret a few squats.

  • Build muscle and therefore burn fat faster
  • Work your core and have a flatter tummy (suck it in ladies!)
  • Stronger legs = better movement
  • Make your body more flexible and balance better

 Hey! Even Mrs Obama squats!

It's Okay

How many times have you been told not to eat after 8pm? Or to make sure you have your last meal at least 3 hours before you go to bed? Sadly, this advice is not easy to follow. Especially if like me, a great evening workout out leaves you crazy-hungry!

So, hey it's okay to eat the following if you find yourself with 'after 8 cravings'.

Carrot sticks or any other carb-free veggies

Low-fat yoghurt

Popcorn (preferably low-fat, microwave)

Nuts

Sugar-free coffee

How to Squat

We've all heard how fantastic squats are for your legs and booty (I'll get to the reasons later on this week), but imagine if you did all those squats and nothing happened??? Like flat bum, straight legs nothing? To avoid such, I decided to find out the proper way to squat.

  • Start with a quick warm up
  • Make sure your feet do not part further than your shoulder width
  • As you go down, ensure that you back is not slouched
  • Your knees should not bend beyond your toes
  • Lower your body until you reach a 90 degree angle
  • As you go down, breathe in. Breathe out as you rise back up

If you are not taking part in 'The 30 Day Squat Challenge' (see below) , I would recommend that you do 60-150 squats a day. Just for control.
